Meredith second line up

By Gemdilem, September 24, 2009 11:31 am

Meredith Music FestivalMeredith Music Festival… set in the beautiful Supernatural Amplitheatre where life is happy and tranquil. It’s also kind of muddy and wet at times. But who doesn’t love gumboots and ponchos? I haven’t met such a person.

The line up for this year’s festival already consists of some old school favs like Animal Collective, Jarvis Cocker and Tumbleweed. Today it was announced, further proving that the 90s are well and truly back, that The Fauves will be joining the line up.

The list of acts joining the Meredith 2009 line up include:
The Dacios, Yacht, Tim Sweeney, The Fauves, Oh Mercy, Regular John, Silence Wedge, Kes Band, Wagons, Mafia and Angus Sampson

Meredith Music Festival (aka mud fest) is happening on Dec 11-13 at the Supernatural Amphitheatre in Meredith, Vic. Tix to the festival are already sold out (sad face) so to go you might need to sleep with someone, sell your soul or hop on over to eBay.

Meredith Music Festival line up rumours

Who doesn’t love a good almost-definite rumour?

Although the line up hasn’t been announced yet there are two acts which seem like almost-definites to play at this year’s Meredith Music Festival.

Jarvis Cocker has announced that he will be performing shows in Australia in December. The lack of a Melbourne show can be seen as a sure sign that he will be playing at the Meredith Music Festival.

Also, according to the Domino Records website Animal Collective will also be playing at Meredith.

Awesome? YES!

Other rumours we’ve been hearing which are completely unconfirmed / straight from our dreams include: Band Of Horses, The Oh Sees, Afrika Bambaataa, St Helens, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, The Bang Gang Deejays, Why?, The Fearless Vampire Killers, Gang Gang Dance, Patrick Wolf, Tim Sweeney, Knightlife, Combo La Revelacion, The Vaselines, Jebediah, Love Of Diagrams, Ooga Boogas, Hey Rosetta!, Cloud Control, Waaves, M Ward, Mos Def, Calexico, Gogol Bordello, Amanda Blank, Deerhoof.

The official line up should be announced soon-ish. For all those that wish to go to the festival, you should really enter the ballot (or don’t cause we really want to go and that would ruin our chances).

Peace, love and mud.

Meredith Music Festival (Sunday) – 14/12/2008

By Gemdilem, May 27, 2009 11:25 am

Previously:

  • Friday: aka “sawdust in undies”
  • Saturday aka “The Bronx are the greatest band everrrrr”

…and now for the final words from Da Festival Ladiez.

Morning Breaks

Gemdilem: I was woken up at 11am by someone in a tent nearby yells very loudly “it’s stopped raining”. There was a loud cheer and car horns beeped (many people slept in their cars because their tents did not survive the crazy weather on Saturday).

Poleski: After having our Dorito and chocolate breakfast we packed all our muddy gear and said goodbye to Meredith. As we walked by the muddy hill we saw many people still going from the night before. Lots of face planting was witnessed. Katatonic was grateful she didn’t stack it once – gotta love a mind blank.

Gemdilem: It had stopped raining. Just in time for us to pack up our tents. It was time to head back to civilisation. It was time to say goodbye to ponchos and gumboots, compost toilets and mud.

Gemdilem: Time for one last trip to the compost toilets before we leave.

Mrs Pop: I have sawdust in my undies.

Conclusion

Gemdilem: It was a music festival I will never forget. It was epic. The rain the mud not once did it stop me from having a good time though. I had a great festival and can’t wait to go again next year. One thing is for sure though I will never complain about the weather ever again unless I am standing outside when a tornado hits. Nothing will ever quite compare to Meredith 08. It will become one of those stories that gets past on at future festivals I survived Meredith 08. The year that it rained 80mm over the weekend, the year that it turned into one big mud bath.

Poleski: I have no words except: simply epic. My current fragile state is beyond worth it. I heart you Aunty Meredith! Here’s to Meredith 2009. I think I might just limit my festival outings to the fields of Meredith and laneways. PS: On the way home we did see llamas and a guy on acid. Score!

Meredith Music Festival (Saturday) – 13/12/2008

The Friday installment was packed to the brim with adventure (missed planes), comedy (Regurgitator are still around?) and suspense (saw dust in undies). Now, it’s time for part doose with even more of the same hi-jinks, lo-jinks and in-betweeny-jinks with our three dedicated festival reporters – Gemdilem, Poleski and Mrs Pop.

The Second Day Begins

Gemdilem: And now the rain has been replaced with rain AND wind. It was hard enough to get the tent to stay put being pegged into the wet, soggy ground. Now with the extra challenge of the wind it was impossible. Tents got airborne. Walking around the camp ground was like walking around a tent graveyard.

Mrs Pop: We are going to get mould in all sorts of places.

Tame Impala

Gemdilem: They looked so nervous taking to the stage. Second song in and they found their rhythm. The drummer was awesome he was going so crazy I thought his arms would drop off.

Poleski: The current flavour of the month you couldn’t help but wonder what the fuss was about. The young ones did not disappoint! A set of psychedelic awesomeness….and colourful, tie dye tees…brought the 10,000 campers out of their slumber / pass outs and back to the stage. The best wake up call ever.

Gemdilem: Back at the camp site tents were flying still. We almost lost our tent. Twice. Even with Mrs Pop sleeping inside. Thank God for duct tape! If we were to survive the day we were going to need: gin haze, ponchos, gum boots, and beer.

Gemdilem: Poleski decides to make an outfit from ponchos.

Meredith Music Festival (Friday) – 12/12/2008

Do you like mystery, adventure and stories about compost toilets? Well, you came to the right place!

Back in December Gemdilem, Poleski and Mrs Pop headed down to the mystic land of Victoria to attend the Meredith Music Festival.

Midday: Somewhere near Melbourne

Just getting there was a challenge.

Gemdilem: Headed to Melbourne and picked up de.foxus and Trev the random. Such is the nature of Meredith that you give lifts to strangers you’ve never met. There is a kind of hippy love feel to the festival before we even arrive. Completed a Dan Murphy’s run for beer, ginz, tonics and ice – and we are on the road to Meredith. Poleski, Mrs Pop, Katatonic and Bravest Man Alive (aka BMA) were planning to drive to the festival later on after work.

Gemdilem: Somewhere near Geelong it starts to rain.

2:57pm

Phone call between Mrs Pop and Poleski.

Mrs Pop: Where are you?

Poleski: Office. Just leaving now! So damn excited!

Mrs Pop: Office? But don’t you land in Melbourne at 4:30.

Poleski: Yes…yes I do… [pause] yes…now I see where you are going with this. Fuck.

Poleski misses flight from Sydney to Melbourne. Who knows when Polski, Mrs Pop, Katatonic and BMA will get to Meredith.

4:30pm

Gemdilem: Drive from Melb to Meredith = 2 hrs. Meredith town to Meredith music festival (normally a 15min drive) = 2.5 hr drive on festival day. We spent longer in the queue to get into the festival then driving from Melbourne! FAIL!

Gemdilem: Arrival! Finally!

5:15pm

Gemdilem: Tent up. Survived first compost toilet visit. First beer in hand. 100% success. Just in time for the first bad (Violent Soho) at 6pm.
