Harvest festival: glam-rock burlesque, circus royalty, and electro-swing idols

The official statement from Harvest festival:

Harvest Festival presents an electrifying and expansive line-up of glam-rock burlesque, circus royalty, electro-swing idols, spoken word Institutions and over fifty art installations across the three festivals, in addition to its already critically-acclaimed music bill, this November.

Enter Bootleg Alley, where decadent whimsy and dangerous glamour combine in alt-performance palace Le Boudoir. Featuring exclusive performances from Los Angeles starlet, world-class violinist, fashion icon and glam rock burlesque Queen – Emilie Autumn – touring with the infamous Bloody Crumpets; the Australian premiere of New York’s Gospel Superdiva Our Lady J; and irreverent International neo-cabaret superstars The Wau Wau Sisters.

Vaudevillage, the Molotov cocktail of theatre, comedy and spoken word curated by The Campfire Collective, will open Le Boudoir in each city with all killer and no filler. With performances from Virginia Gay, Die Roten Punkte, The Suitcase Royale, and Asher Treleaven (Melbourne); Applespiel, Zoe Coombs Marr, Randy and Smart Casual (Sydney); and The Bedroom Philosopher, Ghost Boy, Skills in Time and Mel Buttle (Brisbane), plus more to be announced.

Le Boudoir also brings you foot-stomping, hell-raising sets from Juke Baritone and The Swamp Dogs (Sydney), Mojo Juju (Melbourne), Clairy Browne and The Bangin’ Rackettes (Brisbane) and Kormac’s Big Band (all cities); as well as gobsmacking feats from Australia’s elite stunt masters, The League of Sideshow Superstars (Melbourne / Brisbane).

Deep into the underbelly of Bootleg Alley lies The Snuff Box. Part jaw-dropping art installation, part subversive performance space, part hush-hush goodtime speakeasy, this very special secret space is hosted by performance art guerrillas The Glitter Militia in Sydney and The Jitterbug Club in Melbourne, who will both also be presenting knock-out extravaganza shows in Le Boudoir.

Meanwhile, in blissful alternative area The Secret Garden, kick back to some very special guest funk, soul and reggae DJs on The Garden Stage, enjoy spoken word institutions such as Women of Letters, WeMakeUs Collective, Little Dum Dum Club (Melbourne) and Michael Workman, Caravan Slam, Craig Schuftan (Sydney) on The Campfire Stage, as well as gourmet food, boutique bars and holistic markets, in a world full of surprising pleasures and delights.

Harvest is proud to announce over 50 visual, live art, virtual and performance installations across the three festivals from some of Australia’s most exciting artists, including Kirsty Hulm, Projector Obscura and Georgina Humphries (Melbourne); Peter Strong, Luke Hespanhol and Julie Doye (Sydney); and Melody Woodnutt, Kat Barker and Michael Candy (Brisbane).

A highlight of the visual arts programme is a large-scale commission for each festival from Sydney-based Tortuga Studios, in association with Mekazoic, while unadulterated sideshow fun is provided by Wacko and Blotto (Sydney / Brisbane), Umbrella Theatre Company (Sydney), One Trick Pony (Melbourne) and many more.

Unbe-fucking-lievable: Rewind Festival moves to smaller location, cancels headliners and offers no refunds

I am seriously lost for words. This is so unbelievable. The way the promotors are handling this is disgraceful. No doubt this is not the last we’ll hear about this and don’t be surprised if the whole things gets cancelled.

Here are the facts:

1. The festival has moved from Blue Scope Fields in Kembla Grange, near WOLLONGONG to the Hordern Pavillion in SYDNEY.

2. It has changed from an outdoors camping festival to an indoor hall with no camping.

3. The line up has been changed “there has had to be some re-structuring of the line up for a more condensed, more fun and more convenient indoor 80’s party” with many of the headliners including Human League, Kool and the Gang, Candi Staton, The Straits and Sister Sledge been cancelled.

4. Apparently it’s the rain that has caused the need to change the venue. And not poor ticket sales. Ummm…

5. Camping tickets will be refunded, normal event tickets will not be cancelled since apparently they “have looked at the refund policys and its quite clear that refunds will only be given in the event of cancellation or postponment, this is not the case the event is going ahead”.

6. Post your rage on the festival’s Facebook page. Although many angry punters are complaining that their comments are being deleted.

7. Festival goers are being advised by Rewind Festival to “wait a few days and you will probably find your tickets value will rise and you may even be able to turn a profit on your ticket posting on our face book page.”

8. For advice on lodging a complaint with the NSW Fair Trading and hopefully get a refund, check out the Rewind Ticket Refunds facebook page.
