The Grates at Splendour in the Grass 2008

The Grates at Splendour in the Grass 2008

Beaches, hippies, sunshine, rain, and mud. It’s almost time for Splendour in the Grass.

According to the official festival countdown spreadsheet (Excel nerdfest) it’s only 16 days until Splendour in the Grass. With only a few days to go, we’ve put together what could be described as a Splendour in the Grass survival guide but in reality it’s just a collection of random thoughts on the best / worst acts performing, the latest fashion predictions and helpful hints for a happy festival experience.

  • The cool indie hippy kids love MGMT. To avoid the kids avoid MGMT like the plague (swine flu?). On the subject of MGMT do we all remember their poor performance at Meredith 2008? We can and are scarred for life. Will it be another spew worthy performance? Time will tell.
  • Architecture in Helsinki (AIH) lately have been including in their set a truly moving and fabulous cover of Neverending Story. Not to be missed.
  • Heckle Bob Evans by requesting Jebediah songs.
  • Danananana-what?
  • We are still trying to get our heads around the fact that Midnight Juggernauts are supporting The Flaming Lips at their sideshows. Are we the only ones that think Midnight Juggernauts are so 2007? Will they finally have some new material to share with the festival punters? It’s long overdue.
  • It rains a shitload in Byron Bay (1695mm per year!) so get yourself some gumboots and a poncho. Gumboots are always cool and useful for smuggling alcohol.
  • This might sound like a mum-thing to say but we’re going to say it anyway because it’s important – bring layers. It’s stupidly hot during the day and freezing at night. Layers and a beanie will be your saviour.

  • Fashion prediction (exclusive): Bruno inspired outfits. Hot! And so now!
  • For some EPIC old school alternative rock don’t miss The Flaming Lips and Janes Addiction.
  • Danananana-what?
  • Lost your shoes? Need a new jumper? Hang around the stages after the last band has finished and everyone has gone home. It’s like an op shop with dirt.
  • We recommend the ginzz.
